“REFUGEE CHILDREN AND THE RIGHT TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION:
A HUMANITARIAN AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ISSUE”

In the first five years, psychosocial well-being is as important as physical health. However, the large number of the world’s children that start life at severe risk threatens the global goals of poverty eradication, sustainable development and social stability. Many refugee children do not have access to education, let alone to quality education, key to sustainable development in the post-2015 framework. Early childhood education mitigates the psychosocial impact of conflict and disasters by giving a sense of routine, stability, structure, and hope for the future. Refugee children too have the right to thrive, develop their full potential, and contribute to society.
