Background

The five OMEP National Committees in France, Ireland, Croatia, Sweden and the Czech Republic developed the course together with Kristianstad University in Sweden, and edChild, an EdTech company. The Erasmus+ funded project Sustainability from the Start – ESD for ECE worked between January 2022 and June 2024.

The project developed and implemented an online education: Sustainability from the Start to support ESD content in everyday life in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings, as well as in ECEC teacher education at universities.
The project combines digital learning and learning for sustainability with special orientation and adaptation for early childhood.

The course is a huge success, more than 5 000 participants in more than 50 countries, including university students in around ten countries that join the course as part of their education. It was awarded Best practice by EU.

Available in: English, French, Spanish, Swedish, Croatian and Czech.

“This project had ambitious and important intentions which the consortium fulfilled well. Almost everything that was promised to be done in the original application has been achieved. The produced app and its contents are very user friendly, show high didactic quality and can make a change for teachers and teacher´s training students if being used in their context. There are also proof of the material being used in daily education in pre-primary schools, which is excellent. This project really proves that Erasmus+ can make a change in education both at school level and in higher education. Hopefully this project will be maintained for some more years and be further
developed by the consortium.

Implementations seem to have been the case at some universities in ESD and hopefully this can be further exploited and disseminated. This project is recommended for best practice.”
